True
Blessings
Matthew 16:26
For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world,
and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his
soul?
How often have we measured blessings by material goods and
possessions?
But those physical things are very unstable. They are often
fleeting. They can come and go as the economic conditions or other
geopolitical crises or natural disasters occur. Undesirable
external conditions can produce undesirable outcomes for
physical wealth or blessings.
True blessings are intangible. They are priceless. These
non-physical gifts bring lasting fulfillment, peace and joy. They
are more valuable than material wealth.
True blessings of God provide stability, security and happiness that
money cannot buy.
Examples of true blessings include unconditional love, spiritual
growth, mental and emotional wellness, and lasting relationships.
When we love others unconditionally, we know we are truly blessed.
Very few people have this blessing. Peace and joy will abound even when the
surrounding conditions and environments are not pleasant and good.
There is a great sense of stillness, quietness and contentment in
our hearts that does not depend on external conditions and
circumstances.
We know God loves us so we love others. We know that
God cares for us so we care for others. We know God is sovereign, and
is
in full control of whatever situations we are in. He will provide,
and He will carry us through.
When we are growing spiritually, we are blessed. Like a mustard
seed, our faith is alive. Though small, it has the potential of maturing
into a big tree someday. As long as we are growing, we are living
and are alive!
Our faith, though small, is living, and strong even when we undergo
problems, trials, temptations and tests. Our eyes are fixed on
Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith. We can endure and
overcome with the divine strength that God has bestowed upon us.
When we have good and lasting relationships, we are truly blessed.
Many homes have broken down, and many friendships are over. They do
not stand the test of times and trials. But if we have still the
love, support, and companionship of family and a few friends, we are
blessed. We need each other in good times, and also when times are
bad.
When we have a Friend like Jesus, we are truly blessed. He knows
what we are going through. He hears our cries and prayers. He helps
us even at times we do not know what to do. Even before we pray, He
knows and is on the way to help us! Thus, we need to acknowledge Him
daily in our life.
When we are free from the bondages of fear, anger, addictions, and
other self-destructive habits, we are blessed. Many people may have
material goods, but they are addicted to a few vices here and there. Their palaces
may have become their prisons. And they are trapped in their own doings
and actions. If we have freedom from all these traps and addictions,
we are blessed.
When we have mental and emotional health, we are blessed. We have
the blessing of waking up. A new day to live life and give thanks to
the Lord! A new day to experience His grace and mercy as He leads
and guards us through the journey of life. A new day to experience
His agape love as we give to others a portion of when we have
received. We are able to minister grace daily to others even as we
receive His grace every new day.
When we have our daily bread, we are blessed. If we have
something to eat and drink, we are blessed if we are contented. Many
in the world today are starving. Many sleep even as they are
suffering in hunger and pains.
We also have another daily Bread. The Living Word of God. If we
partake His Bread daily, we know we are blessed. Many in the world
do not have this blessing.
When we have Christlikeness in our life, we are truly blessed. Our
godliness and character will help us to have integrity, purpose, and
meaning in life. We know that God is pleased with us as we walk in
His life and love. As we trust and obey Him, we will know what
really
pleases Him. As we do His will, we know we are blessed.
True blessings are not material gains and goods. They come from
our Father in heaven.
James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down
from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow
of turning.
Every good blessing and every perfect gift is from God. These good
gifts come down from the Creator Who created the sun, moon, and
stars. And God does not change like their shifting shadows.
His blessings are long-lasting and stable. They will endure, and
stand through troubled times and trials.
