Divine Providence For A Dream

And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-Jireh.
As it is said to this day, In the mount of Jehovah it shall be provided.
Gen 22:14

Our God is very thoughtful towards us. When He starts a good work, He will continue to work on it till He completes it. After creating the universe, He has never stopped working - preserving and protecting His masterpiece. He provides every necessary need to ensure the smooth running and functioning of His creation.

If the sun is one more inch away from the earth, we will all be frozen to death. If the sun is one more inch nearer, we will all become burnt offerings or roasted beings. Imagine the earth runs out of water or air or oxygen or life. Imagine the planets abandon their predestined orbits and begin to collide with one another. Imagine the Lord cuts off all the power supplies of the universe. The stars and the sun will fade into darkness. The planets will stop spinning. There will be no more night and day on earth. Time will stand still. Everything will come to a motionless halt. And life will cease.

Divine providence is the continuous work of God in His creation by which He preserves and governs. It affirms His absolute lordship over His creation. It confirms the continual dependence of all creation on their Creator. The universe is not governed by nothing. Nothing operates by chance or accident.

No factory or machinery runs without somebody controlling it. They need the elected personnel and the electric power to function. Everything in the universe runs on the power of their Creator! All power belongs to Him! Without Him, nothing moves or has its being (Acts 17:28).

God preserves all things through His providence (1 Sam. 2:9). Without His continual care and loving handiworks, the universe would not be in existence this day. Through His divine providence, God controls the universe (Psalm 103:19) and the physical world (Matt. 5:45).

God preserves all of mankind through His divine providence (Gen. 28:15; Luke 21:18; 1 Cor. 10:13; 1 Pet. 3:12). He also watches over the affairs of nations (Psalm 66:7); man's birth and destiny (Gal. 1:15); man's successes and failures (Luke 1:52); and the total well-being of man (Psalm 4:8). Even while we were in our mother’s womb, He formed us with all the minute details and specifications!

By His divine providence and government, God unceasingly directs all things to the divine purposes He has chosen in His eternal plan. God is the Master of the universe. Christ was given all power and authority to reign over all things (Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 2:36; Eph. 1:20-23). Nothing can hide from His eyes. Nothing is insignificant to Him (Matt. 10:29-31). He determines the answers for man (Prov. 16:33), and also guards man's good (Phil. 2:13) and evil deeds (Acts 14:16).

God acts in accordance with the laws and principles that He has established in the world. The laws of nature are nothing more than a loving God at work in His creation. Creation has neither inherent power nor ability to work by itself.

Our times are in His hands. The seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter are always in the same chronological order. Even life comes from Him. Man is free to choose and act. God does not violate man’s choice or nullify man’s responsibility and accountability. However, He is still sovereign and almighty - turning ashes into beauty and making something beautiful even out of the shortcomings of man. He regulates man's choices and actions (Gen. 45:5; Deut. 8:18; Prov. 21:1). God permits sinful acts to occur, but He does not cause man to sin (Gen. 45:5; Rom. 9:22). He often overrules evil for good (Gen. 50:20; Acts 3:13).

I have a dream, which I believe with the divine providence of God, will come true. It is fashioned after Psalm 87:

I have a dream
Of a holy city upon a hill
The city of God
Where wonderful things do happen

I have a dream
When Egyptians and Babylonians
Are listed among the peoples
Who obey the LORD

I have a dream
When the people of Philistia, Tyre and Sudan
Are numbered among
The inhabitants of Jerusalem

I have a dream
Of Zion it will be said
All the nations
Belong there

I have a dream
The LORD will write a list of the peoples
And include all of them
As citizens of Jerusalem

I have a dream
When all the peoples of the earth
Will dance and sing together in Zion
Where all the blessings of God flow

I have a dream
When mercy and truth have met together
Righteousness and peace have kissed
And truth shall spring out of the earth

I have a dream
Of brothers dwelling in unity
Isaac and Ishmael
Jacob and Esau

I have a dream
Of a holy Bride
Ready to receive
Her Bridegroom

I have a dream
Of Israel and the Church
In one union
With Christ

I have a dream
Of perfect peace and rest
Dwelling and feasting
In the presence of God

I have a dream
Of a glorious kingdom
Where righteousness and mercy
Flow like a river wide

I have a dream
Of dreamers’ dreams coming true
Of the created
Meeting their Creator

I have a dream
Free at last!
Thank God Almighty
We are free at last!

I know that this dream will come true:

  • Because it is written in His Word
  • Because God will divinely provide to ensure its fulfillment
  • Because all things are possible with God

The works of God will never lack the resources of God. The Word of God has the power to fulfill every promise it makes!
